Ni Jun was born in Tianjin in 1963. He earned a master’s degree from the Mason Gross School of Art at Rutgers University in New Jersey in 1991 and lived in New York for many years. He currently lives and works in Beijing.
Ni Jun was a student in the first cohort of the Central Academy of Fine Arts Affiliated High School following the Cultural Revolution. After studying mural painting under Professor Yuan Yunfu and graduating from the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, he studied abroad at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he studied under American painting master Leon Glaub and others. He was active in the New York art scene for many years, holding numerous solo exhibitions, and has taught at Rutgers University, Parsons School of Design, and leading art institutions in China. Ni Jun serves as an academic committee member of the Beijing Jin Shangyi Art Foundation. In September 2023, Ni Jun was named one of the “Artists of the Year” nominated by the Guangdong Museum of Art.
