My recent works tend to focus on consumer goods—objects whose value is “constructed,” such as clothing, shoes, and jewelry. In my paintings, these items are intentionally presented from different perspectives, creating a sense of being “unfamiliar” or “estranged” from everyday life. This theme is closely related to my own experiences: I grew up in the places where these goods are produced, and now study and work in the places where they are sold. This gives me a particular way of thinking about how value is constructed, and I am also deeply interested in collective memory.
In my works, “people” usually do not appear in a traditional form. Instead, they are shown in a “de-featured” or “non-specific” way. Within the composition, the human figure is no longer the protagonist; compared with classical painting, the accessories or objects take center stage, while the person becomes an accessory.
