Ma Lingli

1989 Born in Chengdu, Sichuan.

2012 Received a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Chinese Painting at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute

Ma Lingli’s works use ancient silk as their base material. Through painting, airbrushing, and folding, she explores light and shadow, space, and the interplay of the real and the illusory, putting into practice the infinite possibilities of two-dimensional space. Beneath minimalist patterns lie complex trajectories and the fusion of time and space; an immeasurable overlap of rational order and free will is superimposed upon the canvas, while the unique tension between the secular and the divine forms the underlying tone of her work. Through the folds of the silk, she dissolves the constraints of traditional conventions and the inherent elegance of ink-on-silk, revealing an inner, secret energy that lies between desire and the divine.

His works have been exhibited at institutions including the National Art Museum of China (Beijing, China), Today Art Museum (Beijing, China), Song Museum (Beijing, China), Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (Fukuoka, Japan), the Royal Academy of Arts (Kensington, UK), and the Taylor Foundation (Paris, France). He has received the Gold Award at the Caesar Rising Star College Student Nomination Exhibition (2013) and the Gold Award at the “Fulong Cup” Annual Nomination Exhibition for Contemporary Art College Students (2012).
