Carlo Ratti is one of the pioneers of plywood chairs. Carlo Ratti is one of the pioneers of plywood chairs. Drawing inspiration from solid wood panel materials, Carlo Ratti created furniture using whole wood panels instead of wood composites. The two Ratti brothers, Carlo and Mario, not only supported the young pioneers of art, but Carlo was influenced by the eclectic trends of Futurism, Cubism and Abstraction and joined the Monzese art family. His mastery of wood sculpture allowed Carlo to design and produce furniture in both neo-modernist and Art Deco styles. He also gained the approval of the then King of Italy, Umberto II.

At the first Lombardy exhibition of decorative arts in Milan in 1919 (which later became the Milan Triennale), the Ratti brothers exhibited their solid wood furniture and also presented their panels made using the new curved rate technique, the Telo range of furniture. the Ratti brothers gained international attention with their solid wood furniture and their load-bearing plywood furniture. the Ratti brothers presented their Telo furniture at major international and national In 1954, a chair designed and manufactured by Carlo won the Golden Compass Award for its high craftsmanship and aesthetic value.
