2026 ART021 SHANGHAI Contemporary Art Fair

10 - 14 November 2026
Overview

CoBrA Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair from November 11 to 14, 2026. At Booth W13, we will present solo projects by two artists: Vanessa Barragão and Yuan Huinan.

The solo project by Portuguese artist Vanessa Barragão is titled Between Threads. The artist embues interlaced fibrous threads with the vitality of nature. Drawing inspiration from wild blossoms and the inherent textures of plants, she creates a series of textile works that capture nature in full bloom. Built upon undulating, layered fabric textures, the works are handcrafted with crochet, tufting and other techniques. Yarns are looped and piled to form rich, three-dimensional visual layers. Committed to sustainable creation, she uses only recycled yarn waste from the textile industry. Discarded industrial scraps are reborn through meticulous hand weaving into radiant floral scenes. Her practice responds to resource waste in the textile industry and conveys an ecological philosophy of low-carbon living and enduring coexistence with nature.

Artist Yuan Huinan presents her solo project Portrait of the Night. Taking the deep night as a spiritual realm for inward reflection, the artist uses blooming and fading flowers as mirrors to unfold a sequence of paintings centred on pain, quiet mystery and awakening. Against profound, unadulterated black backgrounds, petals stretch and curl. Silky, elongated brushstrokes build up layer upon layer, rendering full and mellow textures. Blood-red markings nestle among the petals, freezing the unspeakable pain of growth onto the canvas. Translucent ribbon-like forms symbolise flowing time, while scorched and fractured traces hint that memory returns only in fragmented flashes. Those lost fragments of the past can never be fully recovered.
