CoBrA Gallery is pleased to announce that the surrealist group exhibition “The Earth Is Blue Like an Orange” has officially opened at the Bunner & Co. Building and will run through September 15.
The surrealist poet Paul Éluard once wrote, “The earth is blue like an orange.” While people are accustomed to believing that the earth should be earth-toned and an orange should be orange-yellow, the poet shatters the inertia of visual experience with this seemingly contradictory line. Vision, as the most direct way for humans to perceive the world, is often regarded as proof of reality, yet we rarely realize that what we see is constantly reshaped by perception, memory, and consciousness. This exhibition brings together eleven artists and designers—Huang Saifeng, Ma Lingli, Ni Xuemin, Jin Ye, Zhang Yixiong, Yuan Huinan, Yang Di, Yang Xin, Zhao Zihan, Comité de Proyectos, and Raka Studio. Through various media such as painting, sculpture, and furniture design, they reorganize the relationships between objects, space, and materials to explore the spiritual experiences hidden beneath appearances.
